On October 11, 2018, High Court judge Thrispisa Cherere issued orders compelling Governor Anyang' Nyong'o and his sister Nyagoy Nyong'o to share their father's vast estate with their nephews. However, the duo has now been granted a reprieve after the Court of Appeal halted the execution of these orders.
The orders, which were issued last year, also directed the governor and his sister to include one of their nephews as a co-administrator for the expansive estate. They were also required to present documents showing they had opened an account for their father's estate beginning July 9, 2014.
According to the court, the governor and his sister had paid Sh900,000 to avoid going to jail after the High Court fined them for contempt. The court heard that they had made efforts to comply with some of the orders issued by the lower court.
Justice Cherere had also revoked the administrative certificate for the property and directed the duo to file books of accounts for the property. The property, valued at approximately Sh200 million, includes 100 acres in Miwani under a 99-year lease, parcels in Manyatta, Tamu and Milimani estates, and East Rata in Seme sub-county, Kisumu, as well as another parcel with flats on Jogoo Road in Nairobi.
