On Saturday night, a family in Kiratina village, Nakuru County, was left reeling after a horrific incident involving a husband who allegedly set his wife ablaze using petrol.
According to reports, 25-year-old Lucy Nyira is nursing serious injuries at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital following the incident.
Lucy had travelled to Nairobi on Friday to purchase goods for sale and returned home on Saturday, only to be met with a fit of rage from her husband, 24-year-old Bernard Kariha.
"I was locked in the house, and he told me to sleep outside and that I would be sleeping outside from that day on. He then poured petrol on me and set me ablaze," Lucy Nyira recounted.
By the time the neighbors got wind of the situation, Lucy had suffered burns and was rushed to hospital.
Doctors at the Nakuru Level 5 Hospital say that the patient suffered burns on the face, arms, legs, and upper body but is out of danger.
Nakuru County Police Commander Stephen Matu has confirmed that the suspect is in police custody pending investigations, with Lucy's family hopeful that justice will prevail.
