This archive report was first published on 3 October 2019.

On October 3, 2019, I had the opportunity to represent my home club, Karen Country Club, against my former home club, Thika Sports Club, in the last league games of the 2019 season.

What struck me was the warm hospitality and friendly competition that characterized the match. It was clear that the league had made a conscious effort to move away from the politics and controversy that had plagued the 2017 season.

As I reflected on the league's journey, I was reminded of my articles in 2017, where I had praised the Nairobi District Golf League for its growth and camaraderie. However, I had also cautioned against the introduction of politics into the game, which could tarnish the league's reputation.

Fortunately, it seems that the league has learned from its past mistakes and is now focused on promoting fun, networking, and the beauty of the game of golf.

So, how can we make the league even better? For starters, we must continue to keep politics out of the game and ensure that elements that threaten the sanctity of the league are censored and weeded out.

Secondly, I believe that introducing test matches with upcountry clubs would be a great idea. This would not only provide a platform for clubs from different regions to compete but also promote unity and camaraderie among golfers.

Lastly, I would like to see juniors playing in the Nairobi District Golf League. The Royal Nairobi Golf Club's Tannahill Junior Golf Tournament is a great example of how to grow the next generation of elite amateur golfers, and the league should follow suit.

Congratulations to the Royal Nairobi Golf Club for winning the 2019 Nairobi District Golf League. Well done.
