On October 2nd, during the burial of the eight pupils who perished in the Precious Talent School tragedy, a speaker highlighted the empty promises made by government officials, including President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
According to the speaker, Raila Odinga had promised one million shillings to the families, but this pledge had not been received. In fact, Raila Odinga had earlier promised three million shillings, including two million shillings from President Uhuru Kenyatta, who had contributed one million shillings to the families of the deceased and another one million was to be used for the reconstruction of the school.
However, the families had not received anything from the president or the ODM leader, with the government being accused of being silent on the matter and Raila Odinga being described as stingy.
"This family has not been supported at all. People were alleging that the government and other stingy people stood for this funeral when we had our own Harambee. We ourselves contributed to raising money to hire buses," the speaker added.
Other leaders who pledged support, including Nairobi County governor, had also not fulfilled their promises, with the families accusing them of making fake promises.
However, it was noted that Deputy President Dr. William Ruto's pledge of Ksh. 800,000 had been received by the families and it was divided to eight families and each family received Ksh. 100,000. Additionally, KUPPET had also contributed Ksh. 400,000.
