On October 3, 2019, Peter Njoroge Karanja, a second key suspect in the murder of Dutch tycoon Tob Cohen, appeared in court after being in police custody for 24 days.

Senior Principal Magistrate Stella Mutuku allowed police to detain Karanja on September 19, 2019, to allow time for further investigations following his arrest on September 13, 2019, after Cohen's body was retrieved from a water storage tank at his home in Kitisuru.

He is one of the suspects alongside Cohen's widow, Sarah Wairimu Kamotho, who on Thursday denied murdering her husband.

After Karanja's legal team requested his release, citing urgent medical attention, the court directed the officer in charge to escort him to Mathari Hospital on Tuesday for a mental assessment.

However, Justice Mutuku ordered that Karanja be taken to the Kenyatta National Hospital for any medical emergency he may require, instead of his personal doctor at Aga Khan Hospital.
