Italian football legend Claudio Marchisio has officially hung up his boots at the age of 33, marking the end of a successful 15-year career with Juventus and the Italian national team.
Marchisio, a graduate of the Juventus academy, made 389 appearances for the Old Lady, scoring 39 goals and winning seven Serie A titles during his time with the club.
He also had a stint in Russia with Zenit St Petersburg, where he won a league title and made 55 appearances for the Italian national team, scoring five goals.
Internationally, Marchisio played a key role in Italy's World Cup campaigns in 2010 and the Euro 2012, where the Azzuri finished as runners-up.
On October 2, 2019, Marchisio announced his intentions to retire, expressing his gratitude for living up to his childhood dream of becoming a professional footballer.
He took to Twitter to share his thoughts, saying, 'I'd made a promise to the kid who dreamt to become a football player. I would have played until I had felt the marvel stepping into the pitch. I wasn’t fulfilling my promise anymore, that’s why I prefer to stop. So, thank you dream, you gave me strength, success and joy!'
