On October 3, 2019, John De Matthew passed away after succumbing to his injuries following an accident at a blackspot near Blue Post Hotel along the Thika superhighway.

After his death, many Kenyans, including myself, found out that he had two families by two different wives: Sarafina Wairimu and Caroline Waithira.

In an interview with Switch TV, Caroline and Sarafina spoke about their co-wife relationship and life since John De Matthew's passing.

According to Sarafina, she knew she would probably end up with a polygamous man because she was from a polygamous family. She met John De Matthew in 2013 during her birthday, and he gave her a date, stating that he wanted a second wife.

Caroline, on the other hand, said that seeing as she was from a polygamous family, she knew she would probably end up with a polygamous man. She also stated that as a second wife, you need to be God-fearing.

As for the question of how John De Matthew's children interact and get along, Sarafina said that their kids knew each other even before Caroline and she met. Their husband would pick her daughter Shiku then pass by Caroline's place and pick up her son.

When asked how Sarafina felt when John De Matthew announced that he was going to marry a second wife, she said that she took her time to understand why he was behaving the way he was. According to his mother, she expected her son to get married to two wives or more.

Her fear was that he would bring someone who would not respect her, or someone who would start fighting. However, she had already accepted the fact because she loved her husband.
