On Thursday morning, Starehe Girls Centre sent home its students to recover from flu, a move that contradicts an earlier statement by the school's director, Sister Jane Soita.
According to Nairobi News, Sister Soita initially told the publication that the students had only taken a 'break', with the affected students being in Forms 1, 2, and 3, and expected to report back on Monday.
However, the school later released a statement stating that the decision to send the students home was made in consultation with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health officials, as well as the school's Board of Management.
According to the statement, the students will resume their studies on Monday, 7th October 2019, with the four form four candidates who have caught the flu continuing to receive medical attention.
The school also stated that samples have been taken for further tests to determine the condition, and that no one has been admitted to hospital.
