On October 3, 2019, Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi claimed that the Handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga was born out of blackmail.
Mudavadi alleged that some Western countries threatened to cancel visas for Opposition leaders and their associates unless they entered into a political deal.
According to Mudavadi, the visa bans were targeting opposition leaders, their spouses, children, and their relatives.
“The secret is that slowly visas were being cancelled. And when Visas are cancelled, they don’t just cancel yours alone. They cancel yours, that of your wife, children, and relatives,” Mudavadi said.
However, ODM through Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has rubbished the claims and issued a counter claim.
Sifuna alleged that Mudavadi was lying and that the pressure from the diplomatic corps was applied to try and stop the swearing-in of the People's President.
“Isn’t it convenient to have Kenya’s latest breaking news at your fingertip? That’s right, at kenyandiasporanews.com you’ll find good informative blogs and articles on various headlines,” Sifuna said in a tweet.
However, Sifuna's tweet was in response to Mudavadi's claims and not a direct quote from the ODM Secretary General.
