Players of AFC Leopards, a Kenyan football club, have gone on strike to protest delayed payment of their two-month salaries.

According to reports, the players refused to train at the Kenya Technical Training College (KTTC) in Gigiri on October 3, 2019, citing their grievances.

The club's management has been facing financial challenges, and the players have been left to fend for themselves.

"We have personal issues to attend to and it's not easy. We have been doing well locally and we are asking for support from the entire Leopards family," said a club spokesperson.

The club's chairman, Dan Shikanda, acknowledged the challenges and assured that they are working to resolve the issue.

"Rome was not built in a day, but we are doing everything in our power to resolve this issue. Our plan is to make Leopards self-sufficient. We want to generate our own revenue. It's sad that we have relied on one sponsor," he said.

The club and its arch-rivals, Gor Mahia, lost their main sponsor, SportPesa, due to the government's strict regulations.

Leopards have won two league matches and are trailing behind Gor Mahia in the Kenyan Premier League standings.
