On October 3, 2019, manufacturers of Sure lubricated condoms issued a recall of batches of its condoms due to quality concerns.
According to a letter from Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa) quality assurance manager Dr. John Aduda, the affected products were supplied through Kemsa and the recall process was being handled by Lifeline Laboratories.
"Please accord Lifeline Laboratories the necessary operation in order to successfully conclude the process," Dr. Aduda requested.
The affected products have batch numbers 17DN754 and 17DN052, with expiry dates between December 2021 and December 2022.
Consumers are advised to check the brand and date at the bottom of the outer packing and the foil wrapping to see if they are in possession of the potentially defective condoms.
Customers whose condoms match the affected batch numbers are advised to immediately stop using them.
As a precautionary measure, consumers are advised to follow these guidelines when using condoms:
- Ensure the condom is in its original wrapping.
- Only use condoms from legitimate manufacturers that use the appropriate materials.
- Check the expiration date.
- Do not store condoms where they may be scrunched or bent.
- Check for any defects in the condom.
