On October 3, 2019, Prof. George Magoha, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Education, announced plans to train more teachers to cater for learners with disabilities.
Magoha made the remarks after visiting the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), where he was accompanied by KISE council member Dr. John Mugo and Director KISE Mr. Timothy Wambua, as well as the Director for Special Education in the Ministry of Education, Mr. Fred Haga.
According to Magoha, KISE has already trained over 29,000 teachers, with 17,000 of them working in schools catering for learners with varying disabilities.
During his visit, Magoha also emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of learners, advising that schools which do not meet safety standards should be shut down.
He also cautioned against cheating in examinations, warning parents not to be duped into giving out money on the promise that their children will be assisted to access examinations before due time.
