On October 2, 2019, Nike CEO Mark Parker issued a statement denying the company's involvement in doping runners. This statement came after sponsored coach Alberto Salazar was given a four-year ban for doping.

According to an email obtained by AFP, Parker wrote, "Nike did not participate in any effort to systematically dope any runners ever; the very idea makes me sick."

Salazar's ban was a result of a long investigation into his involvement in doping practices. The ban has sparked controversy and raised questions about the extent of Nike's knowledge and involvement in Salazar's actions.
