Published on October 3, 2019, a bizarre incident unfolded in Maseno village, Subukia Sub County, where a 27-year-old man was caught exhuming his father's body.
Patrick Mwangi Katonye, 27, had reportedly waited for his family to leave the home before digging up the body of his late father, Johnson Ndonye, who was buried in 2005.
The suspect claimed he wanted to sell the shoes, but the police commander, Stephen Matu, revealed that the shoes were rotten.
Police arrested Katonye and ordered him to undergo psychiatric tests before being presented in court, where he will be charged for disturbing the dead.
According to Matu, the suspect's family requested the police to allow them to conduct prayers before reburying the body, as it is a taboo to exhume the dead.
Police are liaising with the family and the church to rebury the body.
