Published on October 3, 2019, the EACC has made significant strides in recovering illicitly acquired properties in the region.

According to Hassan Khalid, the EACC's South Rift director, former powerful civil servants, politicians, and administrators have voluntarily surrendered public assets through the alternative dispute resolution mechanism.

Among the recovered properties is a 400-acre plot of land belonging to the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (Kalro), valued at Sh1.2 billion. The land was illegally acquired by six individuals and subdivided to investors.

The commission also received back a title deed for Nakuru Municipality Block 12/124 worth Sh35 million, located at Milimani estate within Nakuru town.

Additionally, three parcels of land measuring 0.17 hectares, 0.16 hectares, and 1.15 hectares valued at Sh7.2 million were surrendered to the commission. These parcels were initially set aside for the construction of a stadium in Sotik, Bomet County.

The EACC is pursuing several other cases, including the investigation of government houses in Baringo and a 50-acre parcel of land belonging to Kenya Prisons in Nakuru.

"Some of the cases are being handled through alternative dispute resolution and others through criminal prosecution in court," said a land commission official.
