On October 2, 2019, a multi-agency security team set up a roadblock along the Thika-Garissa highway and intercepted a police vehicle carrying a large consignment of contraband goods.
The vehicle, belonging to the DCI office in Wajir County, was carrying 245kgs of bhang, 150kgs of contraband sugar, 325kgs of government rice, and several liters of cooking oil.
Three police officers, two from the DCI department in Wajir County and one from the regular police, were arrested and taken into custody along with two other individuals who were traveling in the vehicle.
Kitui Rural Sub County Police Commander Charles Chacha confirmed the arrest, stating that investigations had commenced.
The five individuals were initially detained at Kanyonyoo police post before being transferred to Kyusyani Police Station under the escort of Chacha and a top DCI officer.
