On October 2, 2019, FIFA's Players' Status Committee ordered Cardiff City to pay the first installment of 15 million pounds to Nantes for the transfer of Emiliano Sala.

However, the Welsh club has announced that they will be appealing against this ruling to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Cardiff City stated that they were 'extremely disappointed' with the verdict, citing 'clear evidence' that the transfer agreement was never completed in accordance with multiple contractual requirements.

The club believes that this renders the transfer agreement null and void, and they are seeking a decision from CAS that considers all relevant contractual information.

Emiliano Sala, a 28-year-old Argentine striker, was traveling to Cardiff City from Nantes when his plane crashed in the English Channel in January 2019.

The body of Sala was recovered nearly three weeks later, but pilot David Ibbotson remains missing.
