Published on October 2, 2019, the Kenya Meteorological Department is closely monitoring strong winds and dust storms sweeping across the country, causing widespread panic among Kenyans.

A young woman, Winnie Wambui, lost her life in Kirinyaga county after being electrocuted while trying to fix her TV aerial antenna that was dislodged by the strong winds.

According to Kenya Meteorological Department Deputy Director Samuel Mwangi, the phenomenon is not rare, but the public is advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to avoid danger.

Several households and business premises experienced power outages on Tuesday evening due to the strong winds and unexpected dust storms.

Major roads were affected by traffic snarl-ups due to poor visibility, while several objects were seen flying, causing panic among motorists and pedestrians.

The situation was caused by a deep convective system moving from the Coastal region towards South East low lands, Nairobi, and Central parts of Kenya.
