On October 2, 2019, a gruesome double murder shook the quiet streets of Nairobi's South B Estate. Judith Wanjiku, a 73-year-old former Treasury employee, and her 47-year-old daughter Catherine Nyaguthie were found strangled to death in their Golden Gate home.
According to detectives investigating the case, Nyaguthie made a chilling call to the police emergency line 999, stating her intention to kill her mother. The audio recording, retrieved from the police command, control and communication centre, revealed Nyaguthie's calm demeanor as she made the call.
‘Nimeua. Sasa kujeni muniue’ (I have killed. Now I am going to take my own life), Nyaguthie said in her final words, as reported by detectives.
The investigation is ongoing, with detectives trying to determine if Nyaguthie made the call under duress or if she acted alone. The two bodies were discovered by Mrs. Mwai's sister, Peris Wambui Kimani, who had visited the home at around 3:30 pm.
