Philemon Otieno, a Harambee Stars defender, has finally undergone successful knee surgery after weeks of neglect.
According to reports, Otieno picked up a knee injury during Harambee Stars' CHAN 2020 qualifier clash against Tanzania in August.
FKF initially refused to fund his surgery, leaving Otieno to shoulder the burden of his treatment. His club, Gor Mahia, also declined to assume responsibility for his treatment, citing that FKF should intervene.
However, Otieno's family and friends came to his aid, raising the required KSh 450,000 through contributions and his savings.
On Thursday, September 26, Otieno underwent surgery at a Nairobi hospital and has since begun his journey to recovery.
Speaking to Nation Sport, Otieno expressed his gratitude to his family, friends, fellow players, and fans for their support during his time of need.
"I underwent surgery on my knee on Thursday [last week] and I've been continuing with physiotherapy since then according to doctor's instructions," Otieno said.
"I am very grateful to my family, friends, fellow players, and fans for coming to my aid at the time of need and for their prayers," he added.
