Bernando Silva Faces 6-Match Ban for Racial Comment on Benjamin Mendy ¶
Manchester City winger Bernando Silva is facing a possible six-match ban after posting a racial comment about teammate Benjamin Mendy on social media.
According to The Mirror, Silva posted a picture of a black cartoon character alongside Mendy as a youngster, sparking a heated argument.
Silva later apologized to Mendy, but the English Football Association (FA) has charged him with misconduct for breaching social media rules.
The FA alleges that Silva's post was insulting and/or improper and/or brought the game into disrepute, and that it constitutes an 'Aggravated Breach' as it included reference to race and/or colour and/or ethnic origin.
Silva has until October 9, 2019, to provide a response to the charges.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and teammate Raheem Sterling have thrown their support behind Silva, with Guardiola saying that he was 'incredibly clear' in his assessment of Silva's character and that he judges intentions, not just one joke.
Guardiola added that Silva is an 'exceptional person' who likes to be involved in different situations and that the post was just a joke.
Manchester City beat Dinamo Zagreb 2-0 in their Champions League clash at Etihad Stadium, with Raheem Sterling and Phil Foden scoring second-half goals.
