The recent expose by NTV's Sins Of Saviors has left Kenyans reeling in shock as it revealed a foul system of exploitation of the less fortunate and misappropriation of funds at the Child Welfare Society of Kenya (CWSK).
The CWSK, a Government body mandated to care, protect, check the welfare and facilitate legal adoption of children, has been at the center of the rot. Top officials at the agency have been accused of exploiting children with special conditions by ferrying them to a quack's den for experimental 'treatment' instead of recommended specialized treatment.
At the heart of the scandal is the CEO of CWSK, Irene Mureithi, who has been quoted as saying that most children with special conditions are not sick and therefore do not require specialized medical treatment. In a shocking statement, she highlighted cerebral palsy as a condition that is normal among children, implying that treatment is not mandatory.
However, this statement has sparked outrage among Kenyans, with many questioning the credibility of the CWSK. The Director of Public Prosecutions, Noordin Haji, had directed an investigation into the child exploitation claims at the agency on September 3, 2019, but it remains unclear if any action has been taken.
