Smartphone cameras have come a long way in recent years, and the Oppo Reno 10x is a prime example of this evolution. Released in 2019, this device boasts an impressive camera system that rivals entry-level SLR cameras in image quality.

With four image sensors, including a 16 MP selfie camera and a 48MP + 8MP + 13MP setup at the back, the Oppo Reno 10x delivers superb image quality, with great colour accuracy and impressive detail and contrast.

The telescopic sensor is a standout feature, allowing for 10x zoom and a combination of optical and software-based zoom. While the optical zoom is limited to 6x, the software-based zoom kicks in from 6x to 10x, making it a 10x Hybrid Zoom.

Other notable features include AI scene recognition, night mode, time-lapse recording, Google Lens integration, and a dedicated portrait mode. The camera app also offers a range of filters to add a touch of glamour to your videos.

Video quality is equally impressive, with the ability to shoot 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. However, one notable omission is the lack of expert mode for videos, which would have allowed for more manual control over settings.

Design-wise, the Oppo Reno 10x is a stunner, with a bezelless display and a pivot rising structure that houses the front camera, receiver, and flash lights. The device also features a glass cover with a gradient colour finish and a small hump ball near the cameras to prevent scratching.

Under the hood, the Oppo Reno 10x is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. Performance is smooth, and the 6.6'' AMOLED screen is vibrant and bright enough for outdoor use.

The device also features an under-screen fingerprint sensor, which is fast and accurate. However, the lack of water resistance is a notable omission, especially considering the device's price.

With a price tag of Sh 89,999, the Oppo Reno 10x is a serious contender in the smartphone market, rivaling established brands like Samsung and Apple. Its closest rival is the Huawei P30 Pro, which offers similar features and a similar telescopic camera.
