On October 1, 2019, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino witnessed a disastrous collapse in his team's performance against Bayern Munich, resulting in a 7-2 home defeat.
Despite a promising start, Tottenham's defense crumbled in the second half, allowing Bayern to score three times from the 83rd minute onwards.
Bayern's clinical finishing and Tottenham's fatigue were evident as the English team suffered the biggest ever margin of defeat by an English team at home in any European competition.
"Until the 83rd minute we were still alive," Pochettino said. "Then it was like the team was tired and gave up a little bit," he admitted.
Lucas Moura, who had previously scored a hat-trick at Ajax in the semi-final, expressed optimism about Tottenham's chances of recovery, citing the team's ability to bounce back from a poor start in the previous Champions League season.
"The season is so big and we have a lot of games," the Brazilian said. "The beginning of the last Champions League season was worse than this. We can come back and we will come back," he added.
