On Tuesday evening, a powerful windstorm swept through Nairobi and parts of the country, causing widespread power outages and destruction.

According to Kenya Power, their technical teams worked tirelessly to restore electricity supply in areas including Eastlands, Southlands, Nairobi West, Embakasi, Westlands, and parts of Runda.

Additionally, the supply restoration exercise was ongoing in parts of Ruiru, Thika, Kenol, Makuyu, Mwea, Sagana town, Karatina, and Kianjai.

Kenya Power assured affected customers that they were working towards restoring normalcy at the earliest opportunity and would keep them updated on the progress in subsequent communication.

Meanwhile, the Kenya Meteorological Department was monitoring the strong winds and dust storms being experienced across the country, which had caused panic among many Kenyans.

Several businesses and households were affected on Tuesday evening after dust storms and strong winds caused traffic jams on major roads and power outages.

A middle-aged woman from Ongata-Rongai, Kajiado County, lost her life after being electrocuted by a fallen live power line.

Area Sub-county Police Commander Joseph Mwika confirmed the incident and appealed to residents to be more vigilant at this time where most areas may experience rainfall as well as windstorms.
