On October 2, 2019, Governor Ali Hassan Joho finally addressed the public on the Likoni ferry disaster that had been making headlines for days.
Condoling with the affected family, Joho called on Kenyans and Mombasa County residents to remain patient as the rescue mission continues.
He assured residents that his team is part of a multi-agency team actively involved in the retrieval mission, which includes professional divers from Kenya Ports, Kenya Navy, Kenya Ferry Services, Kenya Coast Guard, and The Marine & Fisheries Institute.
’It has been a painful wait for the family of Mariam and her daughter as the rescue mission intensify. We understand the complexity of the search operations, being the reason for the delay and therefore we are asking for patience. Our team is involved in the operations,’ said Joho.
His initial silence on the matter had sparked public outcry, with many accusing him of having twisted priorities. Joho eventually broke his silence 72 hours later, taking to the press to address the matter.
