On March 9, 2018, a historic handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga brought peace to the country. However, two years later, residents of Murang'a county are worried that the peace is being threatened by the infighting between Jubilee party groups Kieleweke and Tanga Tanga.
Speaking at the county headquarters recently, residents expressed their concerns about the persistent quarrels and sideshows between the two groups, which they say are a waste of citizens' time and are hindering their social and economic pursuits.
The residents, represented by Mary Waithera and Veronicah Nyokabi, demanded that the government ban all activities undertaken by the two groups, citing the shameful brawl between Kieleweke nominated MP Maina Kamanda and Tanga Tanga MP Ndindi Nyoro of Kiharu during a church service in the area two weeks ago.
The residents also chided the church's management for accepting the political class to grace their activities, where they use the sacred places as platforms to spew hate at each other and undiluted venom directed at their opponents in full glare of the media.
They further condemned the political leadership for addressing the president on challenges facing the country through childish behaviour on their part.
