October 2, 2019, marked the beginning of campaigns for the Nyamira county women representative seat, with Governor's wife Naomi Nyagarama declaring her interest in the position.
According to sources close to Naomi, her decision to run is partly driven by her husband's impending retirement, with Naomi seeking to protect and monitor the legacy of the county boss.
Naomi's entry into the race is expected to create a three-way contest with incumbent Jubilee candidate Jerusha Momanyi and Annet Nyakerario, who has been attending public functions to win the electorate's support.
Notably, several candidates who competed against Jerusha in the last polls, including Catherine Nyamato, Janet Kumenda, Nancy Onsongo, Grace Nyamongo, Yunia Nyanduko, and Mary Matini, have been quiet about their next political moves.
