Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has sparked controversy after a surprise meeting with ODM party leader Raila Odinga on Tuesday.
According to ODM, Jumwa had attended the party's Parliamentary Group meeting at County Hall, where she expressed support for Bernard Imran Okoth, the party's candidate for the Kibra Parliamentary seat in the November 7 by-election.
However, Jumwa denied the claims, stating that she had not attended the meeting and that Mr. Odinga's visit was unexpected.
She claimed to have attended a meeting with Divine Church elders at Mash Park Hotel, Nairobi, to drum up support for Mariga for Kibra MP.
ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale maintained that Jumwa had indeed attended the party meeting, but his claims were met with denial by the MP.
On Tuesday, the supremacy battle between the Tangatanga and Kieleweke camps played out in Parliament buildings as insiders from both factions sought to gain control of the situation.
It is worth noting that Jumwa was expelled from ODM in March this year on claims of disloyalty, but a tribunal later declared the party's decision as null and void.
