On October 2, 2019, singer Esther Akoth, popularly known as Akothee, took to social media to address a leaked sex tape that had been circulating online.
She distanced herself from the tape, stating that if it were hers, there would be a 'white hand' involved, a clear reference to her husband's European heritage.
"Kenyans are giving me ideas of releasing my sex tape," she said, "but I thought I don't need a sex tape since I always walk naked so there is some parts of my body you really want to see."
She went on to list several points she wanted to address regarding the tape, including the fact that the 'ass' in the tape was not hers, the bedsheet looked like a guest room, and the man in the tape was not her partner.
She also slammed those who were spreading the rumors, saying, "You who is a fool and can't even see, that that face isn't mine, you are too horny and only focusing on the ugly mjulubeng."
She ended her statement by telling those spreading the rumors to 'get a life and accept my success.'
