Published on October 2, 2019, in Nairobi, Kenya, Ferguson Rotich finally secured a global medal after finishing third in the men's 800m at the 2019 IAAF World Championships in Doha.
Rotich, who had previously finished fourth in 2015, produced a strong finish to clock 1:43.82, behind Amel Tuka of Bosnia and Herzegovina who took silver with a time of 1:43.47, and American Donavan Brazier who won gold with a championship record of 1:42.34.
Kenya's wait to reclaim the world title, last won by David Rudisha in 2015, continues.
Donavan Brazier, a 22-year-old American, shrugged off doping controversy surrounding his Nike Oregon Project training group to win the 800m gold medal, becoming the first American to do so.
Brazier's victory marked a tactical masterclass at the Khalifa Stadium, where he broke the previous 32-year-old championship record with a flawless performance.
