On October 2, 2019, a court in Kajiado, Kenya, heard a case against three men accused of practicing homosexuality.
The suspects, George Sane, a teacher at Marhab Girls Secondary School, and two men from Mombasa, Dickens Ouma and Martin Kithure, were charged with engaging in an unnatural act contrary to Section 162(a) of the penal code.
According to the court, the trio met on Facebook and agreed to a sexual encounter in Kajiado, with Sane agreeing to pay each of the other two men KSh 10,000.
However, Sane allegedly failed to pay the agreed amount, prompting Ouma and Kithure to report the matter to the police.
The suspects denied the charges and were released on a cash bail of KSh 100,000 each.
Homosexuality remains a crime in Kenya, and this case highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community in the country.
