South Sudanese footballer John Kuol has been cleared of doping charges after the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) withdrew the case.
According to Kuol, he suffered a concussion during a Kenyan Premier League match in February and was rushed to the hospital. Two weeks later, he had not recovered and sat out a match against Chemelil Sugar at Kasarani, where Adak officials came to the stadium and insisted on taking samples from him and another player.
Kuol claimed he asked whether it was in order for them to take his samples yet he was not playing, but they insisted on going ahead. He also informed them that he was under medication for his concussion, which they noted.
However, the Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT) cleared Kuol of the charges after Adak withdrew the case on Monday.
ADAK Chief Executive Officer Japhter Rugut defended the agency, saying they followed the laid-down rules in handling the matter. He admitted that dealing with team sports is 'a complicated matter.'
But Kariobangi Sharks chairman Robert Maoga accused Adak of having been in a rush to convict the player without doing its homework properly.
Maoga claimed that Kuol has lost many opportunities as a result of Adak's unfair action, and that the agency's case was defective from the word go.
