52 Starehe Girls Students in Isolation Over Mysterious Illness

Published on October 2, 2019, a mysterious illness has struck Starehe Girls Centre in Nairobi, prompting the isolation of 52 students.

The students, who are currently under observation, have been showing symptoms of high-pitched cough, sneezing, and low-grade fever.

According to a statement from the school, samples have been obtained for further tests, and they are working with the national government, Ministry of Health, and other health departments to diagnose the illness and contain the situation.

The school has assured parents and the general public of the safety of the students, stating that they are in constant communication with the affected families.

“52 girls have since been isolated for observation within the school, samples have been obtained for further tests,” read the statement.

Director of the school Sister Jane Soita said the school will be giving more information about the incident, adding that they are holding a meeting with the Ministry of Health to handle the situation.
