Nairobi County to Dispose of 97 Unclaimed Bodies at Mbagathi District Hospital

Published on October 2, 2019, Nairobi County has announced plans to dispose of 97 unclaimed bodies at Mbagathi District Hospital.

The bodies, comprising 56 males and 41 females, have been lying at the hospital's mortuary since 2015.

According to a notice published by the county authority, the bodies will be disposed of professionally if not claimed within seven days.

The notice reads: 'The Nairobi County Government would wish to ask members of the public to identify bodies of the persons named below and collect them for burial within seven days. Unclaimed bodies will be disposed of professionally.'

Among the unclaimed bodies are a mother with fetus, a two months-old-girl, a 93-year-old man, and a street boy identified as Geo.

One of the bodies, that of a 70-year-old man identified as Paul Muchai, has been lying at the mortuary since April 3, 2017.

The Public Health Act allows the county to dispose of unclaimed bodies after a maximum period of two weeks.
