On July 1, Calendi Mwajuma's three-month-old baby vanished from her house in Kwa Rhonda slum in Nakuru West Constituency. Six weeks later, on August 11, police found the baby in Busia County and arrested Lilian Auma, who claimed to be the baby's biological mother.
However, DNA tests conducted on August 26 revealed that neither Auma nor Mwajuma is the baby's mother. The results, compiled by Pamela Okello and presented in court on Monday, stated that the baby had no gain of DNA from either of the women.
According to the report, every baby is supposed to inherit half of their DNA from their biological mother and half from their biological father. In this case, no one seems to know whose DNA the little one is carrying.
Speaking to The Standard yesterday at her home in Mwariki Estate, Nakuru, Mwajuma maintained that the baby was hers and was willing to undergo another DNA test from an independent laboratory to prove it.
County Police Commander Steven Matu said fresh investigation had begun, and the investigations would dwell on where both women got the child they both laid claims on.
