On Tuesday, October 2, 2019, a dramatic turn of events saved the nomination of former Isiolo Woman Representative Tiyah Galgalo to the National Lands Commission (NLC).

According to reports, a total of 114 members voted in favor of an amendment to the National Assembly Lands committee's report, which had initially recommended the rejection of Galgalo's nomination due to alleged non-compliance with tax matters.

Seventy lawmakers, however, supported the quashing of her nomination.

The survival of Galgalo's nomination was attributed to intense lobbying and high-level intervention, which ultimately led to the reversal of the initial decision.

It was reported that KRA's commissioner in-charge of domestic taxes, Elizabeth Meyo, had written to National Assembly clerk Michael Sialai, confirming Galgalo's compliance with tax matters, just days after KRA Commissioner General James Githii Mburu had told the lands committee that Galgalo had obtained a tax compliance certificate fraudulently.

Other members of the commission who cleared the parliamentary hurdle and now await appointment by the president are Mr. Gershom Otachi (Chairman), Ms. Esther Murugi, Prof. James Tuitoek, Ms. Gertrude Nguku, Mr. Reginald Okumu, Mr. Kazungu Kambi, Ms. Hubbie Al-Haji, and Mr. Alister Mutugi.
