On Tuesday, 22-year-old American Noah Lyles made history by winning the world 200 metres title in his first major championships.

Published on October 1, 2019, Lyles' performance was nothing short of superb, as he went clear at 50 metres out to secure the top spot with a time of 19.83 seconds.

Canada's Andre De Grasse took silver in 19.95 seconds, while Alex Quinonez of Ecuador finished third in 19.98 seconds.

Lyles' victory was a testament to his skills, as he powered past Britain's Adam Gemili in the final stretch.

De Grasse, who had already won a bronze medal in the 100m, added another medal to his collection by passing a tiring Gemili, along with surprise package Quinonez.

For Gemili, it was another agonizing defeat, as he had been edged out of the bronze in the 2016 Olympic final.

2017 champion Ramil Guliyev of Turkey, who was competing with a strapped right knee, finished fifth.
