Kenyan athlete Ferguson Rotich has added to the country's medal count at the IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019, winning the bronze medal in the men's 800m finals on October 1, 2019.

Rotich was the only Kenyan athlete to make it to the finals, after his compatriots failed to advance.

Rotich, a 2016 Diamond League winner, had been seeking his first international medal after several failed attempts.

He finished third in the finals, clocking 1:43.82, behind American Donavan Brazier who won gold with a US record time of 1:42.34, and Amel Tuka who took silver.

Rotich exuded confidence before the race, stating, 'I have gained enough experience to aim for a podium finish; I also know it will be a difficult race, being the only Kenyan in the final. I’m ready for the challenge though.'
