Published on October 1, 2019, Real Madrid's Champions League campaign got off to a rocky start with a 2-2 draw against Club Brugge at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Emmanuel Bonaventure, a Nigerian striker, scored two goals for the Belgian side, while Sergio Ramos and Casemiro leveled the scores for Real Madrid.

The match was an action-packed encounter, with both teams creating scoring opportunities throughout the game.

Club Brugge took the lead in the 10th minute after Percy Tau beat the offside trap and set up Bonaventure, who scored with a misjudged first touch that still managed to evade Thibaut Courtois.

However, the goal was initially ruled out for an offside, but after a lengthy Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review, both African players in the build-up to the goal were deemed to be on-side, and the goal stood.

Real Madrid pressed with high intensity in search of an equalizer, but Simon Mignolet made an acrobatic save to deny Raphael Varane's header from a corner kick in the 27th minute.

Madrid's Eden Hazard also saw his shot saved by Mignolet after making an intelligent run into the box to meet a pass from Krepin Diatta.

Things went from bad to worse for Real Madrid as Bonaventure capitalized on a mistake from Luka Modric to scoop the ball past Courtois and make it 2-0 five minutes before halftime.

Real Madrid made a double change at halftime, bringing in Alphonse Areola and Marcelo for Courtois and Nacho Fernandez.

Eden Hazard flashed a shot three minutes after the restart, but Mignolet made a smart save to deny him.

Sergio Ramos needlessly gave the ball away, allowing Bonaventure to pounce on the mistake and round up Varane, but Areola made a brilliant save to deny him.

Ramos eventually put Los Blancos back into the game in the 56th minute with a headed goal from Karim Benzema's cross, which was confirmed by VAR after initial doubts over his offside position.

Club Brugge were reduced to 10 men in the 84th minute after Ruud Vormer was sent off for clipping the heels of Vinicius Junior.

However, the resulting free kick proved costly as Casemiro made it 2-2 with a powerful header from Toni Kroos' assist.

The match ended 2-2 at the Bernabeu, with Club Brugge taking home a priceless point.
