At the 2019 Doha World Championships, American athlete Donovan Brazier made history by winning the men's 800m gold medal in a new championship record time of 1min 42.34sec.

Brazier, a member of the Nike-backed Oregon Project training group, obliterated the American National Record of 1min 60sec set by Johnny Gray 34 years ago.

Kenyan athlete Ferguson Rotich claimed bronze in the men's 800m, finishing in 1:43.82. Amel Tuka of Bosnia took silver in 1:43.47.

Rotich was the only Kenyan athlete to make it to the 800m final, after Emmanuel Kori and Kipngetich Ngeno failed to progress past the semi-finals.
