Manchester City's Premier League champions have suffered a significant blow ahead of their Champions League Group C home game against Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday, with play-maker Kevin De Bruyne ruled out due to a groin injury.

The Belgian midfielder suffered the injury in City's 3-1 away win at Goodison Park against Everton in the Premier League at the weekend.

According to City, the extent of De Bruyne's layoff will depend on how well he responds to the rehabilitation programme overseen by the Club's medical staff.

De Bruyne has been a key player for Manchester City, registering nine assists in nine games in all competitions this season.

He has featured in all of City's league games this season but was substituted towards the end of Saturday's match and missed training on Monday.

Manchester City are second in their Champions League group after the opening 3-0 win in Ukraine against Shakhtar Donetsk.
