Washington D.C, October 1, 2019 - ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi has expressed concern over the maritime border dispute between Kenya and Somalia, calling on the international community to take the matter seriously.
Speaking in Washington D.C during talks with US government officials, Mr Mudavadi emphasized that the territory in question belongs to Kenya, citing international definitions of marine borders.
He warned that allowing commercial interests funded by giant oil companies to influence the outcome could lead to a miscarriage of justice, resulting in further instability in the region.
Mr Mudavadi also highlighted the need for collective global focus on finding solutions to the mushrooming of fragile states and failed states in Africa, which he believes are breeding grounds for terrorism.
He noted that Al-Shabaab has been a thorn in the East African region and praised the cooperation between Kenya and the USA in countering the menace.
Mr Mudavadi called for addressing the challenges of democracy, poverty, youth unemployment, and desperation, which he believes make youth vulnerable to recruitment into terror groups.
