On October 1, 2019, the construction of a Sh1.7 billion ultra-modern stadium in Mombasa kicked off, marking a significant milestone for the region's sports infrastructure.

Mombasa County sports executive Munywoki Kyalo revealed that the project was delayed to incorporate facilities for various sports beyond football.

“Today is a great day for the county of Mombasa because as we have begun the construction of a world-class sports facility,” Kyalo said.

The stadium, which will have a capacity of 12,500, will accommodate football fans and host international rugby matches. Additionally, an indoor sports arena with a capacity of 1,200 and a convention hall that can host at least 3,000 participants will be built.

The project also includes a 25x50 meters swimming pool, setting a new standard for sports facilities in the region.

The stadium will be used for hosting local, national, and international matches, providing a platform for Mombasa and Coast residents to enjoy a spectacular Fifa-approved facility.
