On October 1, 2019, the Kenyans for Justice and Development (KEJUDE) lobby group, led by activist Okiya Omtatah, submitted a letter to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, requesting an investigation into 11 Members of Parliament suspected of holding dual citizenship.

The constitution of Kenya prohibits Members of Parliament from possessing dual nationalities, and KEJUDE is seeking to uphold this law.

The group has identified 11 MPs, including Aden Duale of Garissa, as persons of interest and is demanding an audit of all MPs to verify their citizenship status.

KEJUDE has given the commission 15 days to disclose the audit report, warning that they will seek coercive orders from the High Court if the report is not made public within the stipulated time.
