On October 1, 2019, the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti made significant changes to the organization. One of the key changes was the appointment of Danson Diru as the new head of operations at the DCI headquarters.
Diru took over the position from Samuel Nyabengi, who was moved to the planning section. Johna Kirui, on the other hand, was transferred to the Embu office as the County Criminal Investigations Officer. George Kisaka, the Machakos County head, was also moved to the DCI headquarters and deployed to the library section.
Meanwhile, the National Police Service Commission promoted 95 DCI officers from the rank of inspector to Chief Inspector. These officers had been undergoing training at Kiganjo for months before their promotion.
Additionally, all traffic personnel in Machakos County were moved in response to complaints from motorists using major roads in the area. Over 50 officers were transferred to other sections within the county and replaced by other personnel dispatched there.
The changes were made by Inspector General of police Hilary Mutyambai in an effort to address the concerns of motorists.
