Published on October 1, 2019, the disappearance of African musicians has long been a topic of fascination and concern.
While some deliberately choose to go missing, others seem to slip away without a trace, leaving behind only memories and unanswered questions.
Disappearance of C-Zars ¶
Real name Abdulkarim Mohammed, C-Zars was a Kenyan musician who disappeared at the peak of his career 13 years ago.
He was set to sit for his KCSE examination at the Kilindini Secondary school before he vanished, with speculation rife that he had run away to avoid exams.
C-Zars, known for his hit song 'Amka Ukatike,' won several awards, including Chaguo la Teeniez and Fanta Pure Fresh Oxygen Talent Search.
His father's efforts to locate him in Eastleigh, Nairobi, bore no fruits, and the musician's whereabouts remain unknown to date.
“Wherever he is I want him to know that he is our son and we love him very much. My only hope and prayer is that he comes back home someday as his room is still empty without him,” said his father in an interview two years ago.
Disappearance of Castro ¶
On July 6, 2014, Ghanaian musician Castro drowned in a jet-ski accident in the Volta Estuary at Ada, Ghana.
He was in the company of his friends, including Ghana football super star Asamoah Gyan, and a female identified as Miss Janet Bandu.
The Jet Ski was recovered in the estuary months later, but their bodies are still missing.
Asamoah Gyan publicly disputed the rumors that he had a hand in Castro’s disappearance, stating that the media in Ghana were spreading wild allegations and rumors.
