Kenya's commitment to renewable energy has taken a significant leap forward with the successful full load operation of the Olkaria V plant. According to reports from KenGen, the plant has reached this milestone, paving the way for the injection of more than 160MW into the national grid.

KenGen's achievement solidifies Kenya's position as a leader in the utilization of renewable energy sources, contributing to the global reduction of carbon gases. In 2018, Kenya ranked third in renewable energy capital investments, a feat that placed the country among the top nations in the Middle East and Africa region.

That same year, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) reported that Kenya attracted $1.4 billion (KSh145 billion) in investments for renewable energy projects. The Olkaria V unit 1 was synchronized into the national grid towards the end of July 2019, marking a significant milestone in the country's geothermal energy production.

Today, Kenya stands among the top ten geothermal producing countries globally, with an installed capacity of 612MW. This achievement is a testament to the country's dedication to harnessing renewable energy sources and reducing its carbon footprint.
