On October 1, 2019, the case against Sarah Wairimu Cohen took a dramatic turn when her lawyer, Philip Murgor, accused the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of leaking information about the arrest of a second cousin of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

According to Murgor, he was informed by journalists that the arrest had taken place, and upon investigation, he discovered that the DCI was the source of the leak.

Murgor vowed to take legal action against the DCI for the alleged breach of confidentiality, stating that he would file a suit against the agency.

The Prosecution, led by Catherine Mwaniki, rejected the claims, stating that they would investigate the source of the leak and take necessary action.

Justice Stella Mutuku warned that contempt of court is a serious matter, and the court would scrutinize the authorities on the seriousness of the contempt allegations.

It is worth noting that the Prosecution had previously accused Wairimu of contempt of court for speaking publicly about the case during her husband's burial, where she warned the killers that their days were numbered.
