On October 1, 2019, Kenya Ferry Services (KFS) ordered a 30-minute closure of the Likoni channel as efforts resumed to retrieve bodies of two victims and a vehicle that plunged into the ocean during routine ferry service on Sunday.
According to KFS Managing Director Bakari Gowa, search and rescue teams from the Kenya Navy, Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KEMFRI), and private contractors have located the probable area where the wreckage of the station wagon could be.
"Search and rescue teams from Kenya Navy, KPA, Kenya Marine and Fisheries Research Institute (KEMFRI) and Private Contracted Divers have located the position of the vehicle wreckage. The recovery exercise is underway," KFS tweeted.
Due to the ongoing exercise, ferry users are likely to experience delays between 30 minutes to one hour as ferry movement is affected.
